About Me

Born on the West Coast in 1952 to a family that moved all the time, Richard Sutton was a student of psychology and anthropology until it made more sense to move to a commune and take up goat herding, guitar picking, and tree planting while working as a ski mechanic, illustrator, wood carver and carpenter. He hitch-hiked to New York in 1972 with forty dollars in his pocket to try something new. There, he met his wife, worked in advertising and design until all used up, then opened a retail gallery, becoming an Indian Trader in 1985. More travel followed and a home in New Mexico. He finally began to write fiction seriously, in 1996. His first book, The Red Gate was released in 2009 and was set in Ireland. He still lives in NY with his wife and their cats and lots of hats.
